I like to use a reward chart... At the end of the week if they completed all their chores they get a treat on sun (ice cream, book, toy... Whatever we decided on on mon)

My daughter responds best to cold hard cash. She can take it to the store and buy whatever she wants!

We all pitch in. We talk about how daddy works , mommy works (in the home, feeding them, etc) and they each need to work too. So, daily we have a rhythm of rest, work, play, and thinking (academics). We consider work our service to each other and what makes us a family.

I think it depends on the age of the child.
If they are elementary school, a chart with stickers so they earn their treat over time. In middle school allowance will be good incentive. In high school, that will be cash and car key!
