After reading about a Cakes for Japan bake sale in London that benefitted Japan tsunami and earthquake relief, Crowell Public Library Head of Youth Services Tera Forrest wanted to put her love of baking to good use and have her own Cakes for Japan fundraiser at May 22.

The small but delicious fundraiser raised $213.50 for the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.

"I could do something or I could write a check," said Forrest, who enjoyed making cupcakes for the event and selling them to library patrons. "It makes it a lot more fun than just giving money--for the person giving and the person taking."

Forrest said the library supported her idea and some of her colleagues stopped by to purchase some of the treats or they pitched in with baking.
