AP Classes: Good, Bad or Ugly for Job Creation?

Are AP classes really worth it?  Are they truly more important than summer or school year hands-on internships, long-term volunteering, or having a paying job? What are your thoughts on these questions as our youth, parents or employers?   When 50% of Americans can't make it to work on time and 75% of Americans can't pass the test to enlist in the armed forces, does an extra AP really matter that much?
