College Advising: Summer TIme Travel

This is the time of year to think of grades, colleges, and your summer plans.  Now, as the year is winding down, is the time to get to work—get thinking.  Perhaps you’ve seen college brochures or have taken virtual college tours on Youtube.  Check out admission statistics at BigFuture.com or Collegedata.com.  This is a great way to measure college admission standards against your own statistics.

But there is much more to college admission and success than just statistics.  Your transcript is the most important document in your college application because it shows more than grade point average.  It reveals how seriously you challenge yourself and what direction your life is already taking.  The choices you've made in school become even more important when juxtaposed with the choices you've already made in your life!

All those choices together make up your story.  The essays that you will soon be asked to write come from your life’s experience, adventures, and deep heart of giving back to the world.  Stories don’t happen at the last minute.  They might have happened already or still be in the making. When September comes, you’ll need to build a time machine if you find you have nothing to write about!  Think now, live a little, dream of the world and your place in it.  Reach out to others.  Do something big this summer.

With a great story in place, your grades, test scores, and academic goals will make you into an irresistible applicant!  And if you need help coming up with a great plan, let me know.  I can help.
