San Marino Patch called the to find out what areas in the city had power outages and damage and before we could finish a sentence were quickly hurried off the phone by someone who said, "This really isn't the best time; we're experiencing a lot of calls right now," and hung up, which is not typical of our usual calls to the SMPD.

SoCal Edison's website is not showing any power outages in San Marino as of 11:25 p.m. Wednesday night, though a San Marino resident commented on San Marino Patch's facebook page at about 10:50 p.m. that his power had gone out.

Edison provides these tips to keep your family safe:

  • Have a flashlight and extra batteries ready.
  • Never use candles in an emergency, especially when there's wind involved. Candles are a fire hazard.
  • Unplug or turn off any appliances you were using when the power went out.
  • Flip all your light switches off except for one- that way you'll know when the power comes back on.
  • Never light a fire, or burn charcoal indoors. If you get cold, it's safer to layer up.
  • Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed to keep your food as fresh as possible. Check to see if your food has spoiled before you eat it.
  • If your power goes out, use a flashlight to check to see if any of your lights or appliances are working. If some things turn on, it may just be a blown fuse or circuit breaker.
  • If none of your appliances or lights work, check to see if other houses or buildings on your block have power. It could just be your house that's affected.
  • Do not touch and stay away from downed power lines and utility poles. Live power lines are dangerous- they can cause serious injury or death.

Do you have your own photos of downed trees or tales of how you're dealing with the wind? Post them here, along with location. Also, if your power's out, let us know where!
