Wednesday City Council Meeting: City Budget, Nov. Election, Commission Appointments

The San Marino City Council will address the city budget, details and ballot items for the November election and appointments for the Traffic Advisory and Recreation Commissions and more Wednesday night.

The following is a list of highlighted items on the agenda for Wednesday’s San Marino City Council meeting at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. Public comment begins at 7:30 p.m. The full agenda can be found at this link on the city’s website. 

  • Consideration of fiscal year 2011-2012 budget

Review proposed departmental operating budgets in preparation for city adoption of the budget on June 24. The .

  • Consideration of adopting resolutions regarding the general municipal election to be held on November 8.

Recommendation to adopt:

  • a resolution calling and giving notice of a General Municipal Election for certain officers on Nov. 8 and requesting LA County registrar to conduct the election
  • a resolution requesting the LA County board of supervisors to combine a General Municipal Election to be held on Nov. 8 with the Statewide General Election
  • a resolution adopting regulations for candidates’ statements submitted to voters for the Nov. 8 election.  

The city council election was postponed until November this year to save the city money on election costs. Seats for Councilman Dennis Kneier and Councilman Eugene Sun are up for election in November. It is currently unclear whether the councilmen will run opposed.

  • Consideration of placing an ordinance setting term limits on the Nov. 8 ballot

The current term limits for council members are two four-year terms. This ordinance would be codifying the existing terms limits.

  • Consideration of an ordinance setting a public safety tax on the Nov. 8 ballot.

The Public Safety Tax comprises a third of the city’s public safety budget.

  •  Consideration of appointments to Traffic Advisory Commission 

Recommendation to re-appoint Eileen Hale, David Swarts and Tony Fung to serve a second term; and re-appoint Hunter Chang to serve as an alternate on the Traffic Advisory Commission for terms ending June 30, 2015.

  •  Consideration of Appointment to Recreation Commission

A motion to re-appoint Helen Spitzer to serve a second term to the Recreation Commission for a term ending June 30, 2015

  • Consideration of Thurnher House Lease Agreement with San Marino Historical Society

Recommendation to authorize the city manager (Matt Ballantyne) to execute a lease agreement with the San Marino Historical Society for use of two rooms in the historic Thurnher House.
