SMHS Announces Class of 2011 Prometheans

Thirty-three students were announced this week as Prometheans--in lieu of a Valedictorian--for the SMHS class of 2011. Students are chosen by committees who consider various criteria.

announced the Prometheans for this year’s graduating class this week.

“In lieu of a Valedictorian, SMHS honors Prometheans, a select group of seniors honored at graduation for their outstanding contributions to the school community over the four years of high school,” Assistant Principal Mary Johnson told Patch in a written statement. “Some areas of consideration are personal integrity, academic excellence, and participation in school activities, leadership, and community service.”

After three committees of student leaders, teachers, counselors, and administrators review applications, about 30 students are selected.

Thirty-three students—18 girls and 15 boys—were chosen as Prometheans this year.

The honored students receive pins and cords to be worn at the graduation ceremony and are also invited, along with their parents, to a breakfast in May where a guest speaker and school and district officials, employees and board members will celebrate the group. Patch will post a photo of the Prometheans from the breakfast happening next week.
