I am someone who needs variety in my life. I have changed careers three times. First, I was a registered dietitian for many years, but I tired of the "biscuit beat" quickly and turned my interests to journalism and took classes at UCLA. After a long stint as a reporter, covering crime, city government and different events, I picked up a camera and started shooting.

I recently returned from Africa, where I took 3,000-plus images of wild animals, villages, people and the city of Cape Town.

My husband and I live with our 1-year-old Australian shepherd, Jax, who frequently goes underwear diving for socks. We find them in the drive all chewed up. He also, pulled a whole chicken off the kitchen counter and ran around the house with it until we were able to catch him.

But Jax is much better now.
